The Closing Meeting of the Research Project on Legal Issues Related to Alibaba’s Cross-Border Retail Import and Foreign Trade Integrated Service Was Successfully Held
On 21 June 2019, the closing meeting of the research project studying the legal issues related to Alibaba’s cross-border retail import and foreign trade integrated service was held in Room 729 of Ning Yuan Building. The experts in the Legal Department of Alibaba attended the meeting: Wang Ying and Bian Yuyang, the Legal Directors; Guo Chenglong and Shao Shijia, the Senior Legal Experts; and Tan Qiushi, the Senior Legal Officer. Teachers from UIBE Law School also participated in the meeting: Professor Feng Hui, the Associate Dean; Professor Xue Yuan, the Assistant of the Dean; Professor Ning Hongli; Associate Professor Zhang Xin, the Assistant of the Dean; and Assistant Professor Kong Xiangwen. Ph.D. students from UIBE Law School, Bai Fangyang and Yan Yuhong, attended as well.

Associate Professor Zhang Xin welcomed the experts from Alibaba’s Legal Department and briefly introduced the present members of the research project. Subsequently, Assistant Professor Kong Xiangwen briefed the members and the progress of the project. He reported the overall results from the two research approaches adopted by the project, namely the legal issues of cross-border e-commerce retail import platforms and the legal status and responsibilities of foreign trade comprehensive service enterprises. Professor Ning Hongli reported her study on the review obligation of authenticity and consumer protection related to the cross-border e-commerce platforms. Additionally, Professor Xue Yuan reported on the legal status and responsibilities of foreign trade integrated service enterprisers. Furthermore, Professor Feng Hui focused on the legal status and responsibilities of foreign trade integrated service enterprises from the perspective of tax administration. Lastly, Assistant Professor Xu Chen, a project member from the Public Administration School of UIBE, reported his legal research on the agency or self-supporting issues of new forms of foreign trade, such as comprehensive clothing and cross-border e-commerce. After the reports, the Alibaba experts conducted a warm and in-depth discussion with the researchers and expressed their willingness to cooperate with UIBE Law School again. The closing meeting ended in success.
